Abstract

OSINSKI, Dulce Regina Baggio  and  CUNHA, Amanda Siqueira Torres. Teaching drawing in art education books in the 1970s: new area, old content?. Educação. Santa Maria [online]. 2020, vol.45, e38010.  Epub Aug 28, 2023. ISSN 1984-6444.  https://doi.org/10.5902/1984644438010.

This article problematizes the teaching of drawing through the study of specific didactic books for the Arts Education, published in the decade of 1970 from the promulgation of the Federal Law nº 5.692 / 71, that made compulsory the teaching of the new area in the school curricula. To this end, the relations between text, image and material support will be explored, based on the reflections of Roger Chartier(1990-2001). As sources, there were selected the collections Comunicação pela arte (1973-1980) and Educação Artística (1975-1978). There will also be used official documents such as laws, opinions of the Ministry of Education and Culture (MEC) and indications of the Federal Council of Education (CFE), as well as geometric drawing manuals in circulation before the institution of compulsory artistic education in school. The books analyzed are marked by a material remodeling that included the presence of images of different typologies and the use of a more direct and familiar language with the students, presenting the teaching of drawing not merely as a technical specialty, but articulated with other fields of the arts such as engraving, painting and the history of art. They also point to the persistence of discipline in school culture, as well as themes of a technical or decorative nature, but with a new configuration, seeking to contemplate a wider art conception, including visual communication.
