Abstract

SOUZA, Deise Coelho de; FAVARIN, Daniela Braga  and  SCORSOLINI-COMIN, Fabio. Group strategies for promoting health in universities. Educação. Santa Maria [online]. 2021, vol.46, e42800.  Epub Nov 29, 2023. ISSN 1984-6444.  https://doi.org/10.5902/1984644442800.

The mental health of university students has been a growing concern on the part of educational managers. Among the strategies of care for this population, group interventions emerge as a possibility to provide assistance to a greater number of young people, as well as to develop aspects such as sociability, mutual learning and the formation of support networks. This study aimed to characterize the scientific studies on group interventions carried out to promote and prevent mental health in university students through an integrative review of the national and international scientific literature. The databases/libraries PsycINFO, PubMed, SciELO, LILACS and CINAHL were consulted. There were 41 articles published between January 2009 and December 2019 were retrieved, mostly quantitative. Studies with groups focused on health promotion predominated, with the United States being the country with the largest number of researches in this area. Regarding specific symptoms, depression was the most common, although the majority of the groups described were for general mental health promotion. Studies with pre and post-test comparison showed the effectiveness of most group interventions. The recommendation of these studies about the expansion of programs that encourage and promote the mental health of university students and the possible benefits offered by groups in an academic environment was unanimous.
