Focusing on the current scenery of quick technological changes and communication processes, this study aims to reflect upon effects the so-called new media and technologies have produced on toys and ways of playing. This article is organised in three sections: first we highlight children’s culture distribution in media; on the second section we examine a toy brand route; and finally we keep track of ‘other ways’ of playing and thinking about emergent childhoods in contemporary social and cultural context. We understand that changes of interactions with technological devices have also covered the ‘ways of playing’, because children often play while ‘connected’ to different media, switching between the ‘real’ and ‘virtual’, so that meanings assigned to playing were expanded in the new ways of playing and more and more in tune with consumer culture.
