One of the ways to contribute with filling the educational service gaps during hospital and home care is reviewing the investigative assumptions that support this research field. Intending to extend this debate, the aim of this research was to present a panorama of the knowledge concerning the circumstantial, institutional, and thematic-methodological aspects in the research field on education during hospital care in Brazil. The methodology included a survey in documents available in the Brazilian Digital Library of Thesis and Dissertations, between 2008 and 2019. In total, 108 researches were evaluated according to the thematic-deductive assumptions of content analysis. The circumstantial results indicated the predominance of dissertations in relation to the theses, with greater incidence in the Southeast and South regions. In relation to the institutional nature, the major of researches were from public institutions and post-graduation programs in education. The themes expressed interest in teacher training, play therapy, pedagogical mediation through information and communication technologies, experiences, and meanings of children's hospitalization. The methodologies favored exploratory investigations with a qualitative approach, such as field studies and case studies. The analyzes indicated adequate thematic-methodological subsidies for the development of theories and research methods that are increasingly integrated and specific to the education during hospital and home care.
