This paper aiming to conduct a survey of the perceptions of the public school managers in the federal education in the country of Barra do Corda, State of Maranhão, concerning the quality of Portuguese language teaching in professional high school. The relevance of such perceptions is affirmed in order to achieve the desired quality in teaching and examine the potential guiding of these perceptions for pedagogical purposes. Therefore, references on the quality of Portuguese language teaching and on the pedagogical role of the school manager were reviewed. We proceeded with the case study procedure through documentary research and a survey was applied to the school's management departments. The results reveal that the way managers assess the quality of Portuguese language teaching results in a targeted and formative management profile, which has repercussions in support of the teacher's work.
