Abstract

BEDMAR-LLORENT, Vicente  and  ZARAGOZA, Lucía Torres. Childhood and education in Morocco. Educação. Santa Maria [online]. 2023, vol.48, e70054.  Epub June 02, 2025. ISSN 1984-6444.  https://doi.org/10.5902/1984644470054.

As a result of the Convention on the Rights of the Child (1989), the rights and obligations necessary to ensure a safe childhood are established at a virtually global level. However, child exploitation persists as an indisputable reality in developing countries, a situation closely linked to poverty. In Morocco, a series of policies have been developed that demonstrate the government's efforts to change this reality. However, in 2020 there is still a significant percentage of working children, of which 80.9% drop out of school and 4% have never attended school (Haut Commissariat au Plan du Maroc, 2021). Consequently, this article aims to analyze the educational policies aimed at the protection of children and education adopted in Morocco in recent years, which also try to combine tradition and modernity.

Keywords : Early childhood education; Childhood in Morocco; children's rights.
