SILVA, Fabiane Maria e GONCALVES, Taísa Grasiela Gomes Liduenha. Philanthropy and segregation: the Special Education by EJA in Minas Gerais. Educação. Santa Maria [online]. 2025, vol.50, e85147. Epub 09-Dez-2025. ISSN 1984-6444. https://doi.org/10.5902/1984644485147.
This article aims to analyze the educational treatment for students with intellectual disabilities enrolled in Special Youth and Adult Education (segregated classes and institutions) in the State of Minas Gerais, between 2008 and 2019. To achieve the paper’s main goal, we analyzed the microdata from the School Census of Basic Education, provided by National Institute of Educational Studies and Research Anísio Teixeira (Inep). The results of the study showed that students enrollments of Special Education modality are concentrated in Regular EJA (54,86%). In Special EJA, most of enrollments of students with intellectual disabilities are found in private institutions (92,23%), with prevalence of philanthropy (98,20%), whose agreement with the Public Administration is mostly of municipal and stated based (58,09%). The data confirm the permanence of segregated educational spaces and the presence of philanthropy in the offer of educational services. This study still shows the maintenance of inequalities which characterize the access to education in Brazil.
