Teaching the Portuguese language (LP) as a second language (L2) for deaf students has been a challenge for teachers who work in deaf education, the lack of teaching materials for teaching this language as L2 has caused obstacles and failures in this modality education. There are teaching materials sold in publishing markets, however, they do not include teaching strategies aimed at using LP as L2, making their use appropriate for a native speaker of the language. From this perspective, the objective of this article is to emphasize the importance of producing and preparing a Didactic Unit (DU) made by the teacher himself, aimed at the specificities of his target audience, having characteristics and linguistic needs to meet the needs of deaf students. On the other hand, preparing a UD is not a simple activity, it is essential to have knowledge that is not only pedagogical and didactic, but above all, that meets the needs of language use by its students. Every teaching action needs to be planned, which is why our work brings the UD accompanied by a Lesson Plan (PA), to conduct and guide the teacher's work in the application of the unit guided by the studies of Pre-reading, Reading and Writing Practice. This academic article seeks to guide and encourage teachers in the production of their own teaching material, highlighting the role of teachers in its preparation. Careful choices, planning and implementation of the Didactic Unit are part of the path to the emergence of the material. Thus, the proposal is to show the elaboration of UD and PA aimed at deaf students, bringing in the form of na example, na Activity Planand a didactic Unit aimed at the 5th year of elementary school, based on the textual genre of the comic strip and the theme Technology/communication.
