Abstract

This study seeks to investigate teachers' social cognitions on the category of blind students.   It is based on a theoretical-methodological framework of Social Representations, which has been used in studies on attitudes, stereotypes and perceptions. The participants in the study were 97 teachers working in regular and special education, sub-divided into two groups, respectively. The data collection procedure consisted of an instrument containing items for identifying the subjects, and inductive words for free association. The results indicate that blindness appears to be associated with the notion of difficulty, by the two groups of teachers.
