The present study aims at identifying and analyzing the social representations of money by university students. The Social Representations Theory was used as a theoretical referential. 50 students of engineering from a private university from the central region of São Paulo have participated in this research. For the data collection questionnaires were used, with closed questions for characterization of the participants and with open questions to capture the social representations under study. Three thematic points were defined: the meaning of money, what it takes to obtain a great amount of money and why people have little or a lot of money. The data proceeding from the closed questions were submitted to a percentage analysis and the others to a Content Analysis. From the representations expressed by the students, it was possible to identify that money materializes the possibility of a better survival prospects and better opportunities in life. In order to have "good" and "much" money one must show attitudes, and no fear. However, for those who have "little" money representation related to disinterest and failure was expressed. "Study" also appeared in the students' representations has its relevance, and by some of them, is essential to success.
