This paper presents results of a study that aimed to analyze the knowledge in dance built on initial training in Physical Education from the university extension. Qualitative approach and the type case study, with the collaboration of four students of the course of Physical Education that participated in an extension project offered by a community university in the west of Santa Catarina. The focus group was used as an instrument for data collection and the results, analyzed by the technique of thematic analysis, signaled for the construction of specific knowledge of dance, in addition to those related to pedagogical practice. The collaborators of the study call for university extension as a space in which they expand their knowledge and prepare themselves for future pedagogical activity
