Abstract

This article aims to describe how North American cinematographic productions are problematized by Physical Education teachers from public schools located in Rio Grande city. Therefore, we performed the focus group method composed of teachers linked to the final years from elementary school. As a trigger for the thematic discussion, audiovisual material produced based fragments of Coach Carter and Remember the Titans, exhibited to the research group. Data analysis was carried out through the methodological tool of Discursive Textual Analysis: 1) the brazilian physical education teacher and coach-teacher’s figure; 2) sport at school; 3) cinema potential in physical education at school; 4) physical education teacher and his social role. The results point to the consolidation of the coach-teacher understanding as an aggregate of pedagogical and social characteristics and attitudes exercised in the daily lives of research participants in their teaching activities.
