Starting from the analysis of term “quality” often mentioned in the education, apparently in a consensual and preponderant way; this article discusses some terms of an alleged measure of quality and its subjacent conception that situates education as a professional practice coined exclusively by its utilitarianism for a society of consumption. To this vision purely instrumental, one opposes a call for a public school education that recognizes the men’s birth and his initiation in the human world taking responsibility for it as a public and common inheritance. From this perspective, a public school education will raise a dual responsibility: one for preserving the traditional knowledge and the different ways of life in a preexisting world which the newcomers will appropriate it, and other for the possibility of acting politically in the world, renewing it rather than just resigning to it.
