According to the gender relationship, this article is the result of a master course aimed to analyse the reasons to send students to remedial classes. We attempted to verify if the students’ learning difficulties vary due to their gender, once the boys’ learning difficulties were twice the girls’. The research was developed in a elementary school with a well succeeded project on remedial classes for students with learning difficulties in reading and writing. We observed and interviewed the classroom teachers and the teachers in charge of this project. One of the reasons that explain the great number of boys enrolled in this project is due to the teachers perceptions regarding boys and girls students. Even though we could not describe a linear association between both genders, we identified different meanings in the speach of these teachers, a variation in their understanding of the same behaviour, and different visibility degrees of certain characteristcs regarding the fact of being a boy or a girl.
