This present article intends to analyze and to discuss the issue “Ethics”, as one of the Transverse Themes present in the Parâmetros Curriculares Nacionais (National Curricular Guidelines). It takes into account the following aspects: what are the Transverse Themes; the concept of Ethics in these Guidelines and its subjacent premises to the proposal of Ethics as an issue; some of the objectives of the Transverse Themes, in particular, Ethics; and the reasons to study Ethics in a transverse way. Eventually, some considerations and suggestions regarding Transverse Themes are presented while there is not a more appropriate alternative for teaching Ethics in the schools.
