This study presents an experience of curriculum innovation carried out in freshmen classes at Federal University of Paraná in 2009 (Shore Campus - Matinhos, PR, Brasil), aiming at the consolidation of some epistemological premises of the emerging paradigm of knowledge building. The theoretical and methodological basis is announced through the Political Pedagogical Project of the university and anticipates a curriculum innovation concerning the management of educative spaces. Moreover, there is a concern in relation to the emancipatory aspect of education. This institution intends to develop a pedagogical work in order to accomplish the political aspect of its institutional mission, to promote the development of the coastal region of the state of Paraná and Ribeira Valley. It is possible to notice a more critical look at the educational process by the students and the assumption of their social role with the local community.
