Abstract

MACEDO, Maria do Socorro Alencar Nunes  and  BARROSO, Nuno Paulino. Práticas de letramento acadêmico de estudantes-convênio de graduação: uma análise das relações entre língua e identidade. R. Bras. Est. Pedag. [online]. 2010, vol.91, n.229, pp.604-621. ISSN 2176-6681.

The study analyzes the different strategies developed by undergraduate students from Portuguese speaking African countries in order to deal with academic literacy and to build their identities in the academic space of a Brazilian university. The concept of literacy as a social practice proposed by the New Literacy Studies (NLS), and the concept of identity as a continuum that emerges in certain contexts and situations were used as theoretical-methodological references. Participants of an undergraduate student exchange program (PEC-G) from different courses at Federal University of São João Del Rei use concomitantly Portuguese language, Creole and some slung in order to succeed. This demonstrates that the fact of being a Portuguese language speaker does not imply a successful process of communication and comprehension of the Portuguese language spoken in Brazil.

Keywords : Academic Literacy; Identity; PEC-G Students and Portuguese Language.
