Abstract

This article analyses the data collected through the “Best practices in high schools”, a research developed by Carlos Chagas Foundation and Protagonistes Institute. The research aimed at the identification of the factors that boosted the efectiveness of 35 high schools located in the states of Acre, Ceará, Paraná and São Paulo, in special those practices more closely related to successful performances; it also aimed at the investigation of some aspects of present public policies focused on high school education, as well as the perception of some leading actors, in order to provide a critical analysis and discuss the nodal aspects of these policies. The qualitative and quantitative study identified distinct and varied experiences in the states taken into account. However, there was an option for presenting here the best practices and the critical points of the policies observed.
