Nowadays, transformations in the social configuration of the power are modifying the intergenerational patterns, putting educators at an impasse generated by the teacher authority crisis. The present article presents a research experience that aimed at the comprehension of the meanings attributed to the teacher authority by teenage students enrolled in two public schools of São João Del Rei city, Minas Gerais. Referenced by the symbolic interactionism and ethnomethodology perspectives, data collection was made by three different proceedings: classroom observation, group dynamics and semi-structured interviews. We conclude that the hierarchization order at the classroom not only comes from the tradition, from the submission to the authority accepted a priori as being absolute, but also from the consent as well as from the relationship established among teachers and students.
