Abstract

FERNANDES, Cleonice Terezinha; DANTAS, Paulo Moreira Silva  and  MOURAO-CARVALHA, Maria Isabel. Desempenho psicomotor de escolares com dificuldades de aprendizagem em cálculos. R. Bras. Est. Pedag. [online]. 2014, vol.95, n.239, pp.112-138. ISSN 2176-6681.

The learning disabilities (LD) present a challenge because they refer to students with good cognitive performance but low academic performance at school, which stands out for no apparent reason, since they do not have any mental disability, socio-economic deprivation, serious emotional disturbance or sensory loss. The extensive and diverse conceptual framework includes theoreticians that associate LD to low psychomotor performance. The aim of this study was to check whether there is a correlation between LD in calculus and psychomotor performance. A descriptive and transversal study with 37 students between 7 and 12 years of age, with LD in calculus, consisted of the following tests: cognitive, academic and psychomotor (which included laterality, notion of the body and structuration of space/time). Good psychomotor performance has been found; although, the space/time factor has specifically showed a significant correlation with mathematical performance.

Keywords : Psychomotor Skills; Psychomotor Competence; Learning Process.
