Resumen

CUENCA, Carmen Campero. The formation of youth and adult educators in Latin America: contributions from research and experience. R. Bras. Est. Pedag. [online]. 2015, vol.96, n.244, pp.501-521. ISSN 2176-6681.  https://doi.org/10.1590/S2176-6681/371013586.

This article is grounded on the experience of the Universidad Pedagógica Nacional and the Youth and Adult Education Network in Mexico, and on four studies: two of them regarding research on this field of education in Mexico during 2001-2011 and two, concerning systematizations of advanced continuing education courses, one of them in regional level. Based on that and on the descriptive content analysis, we seek to investigate and review social and educational references, as well as the theoretical, methodological and curriculum approaches about the formation of teachers working with youth and adults. This study intends to contribute to the reflection and improvement of teaching training programs and practices and to make the right to a quality education a reality. The education of teachers is a key component for their professionalization, making a difference in the results of their practice. However, this component has been poorly addressed and, currently, there is a number of educators with low educational profiles and gaps in their training in regard to education and pedagogy. Latin America has programs and research that provide substantial information and elements to guide the formation of these educators. Though youth and adult education training requires greater promotion, the most urgent is moving towards a responsible and committed action in different approaches and arenas, involving a variety of actors in the process.

Palabras clave : youth and adult education; educator training; Latin America.
