The article is a case study that aims to broaden discussions about the use of images in the educational context. The guiding research problem was devoted to how the use of images in the initial training of future teachers of Biological Sciences contributes to the reflection and development of pedagogic strategies that diverge from a traditional teaching methodology. It is a qualitative study, conducted with 23 students of a pedagogical discipline of the course of Biological Sciences in a public institution of higher education in the state of Rio Grande do Sul (RS). Data were collected during the execution of three activities proposed by the researchers from two distinct sources: (1) written production of the subjects during the performance of the activities and (2) records in a field journal made by the researcher, reporting impressions about dialogues and discussions held. Data analysis followed the procedures of Textual Discoursive Analysis, from which two categories have emerged: (1) images chosen by the undergraduates and (2) pedagogical conceptions underlying the choices made by the students. The results identified a great appreciation of the traditional methodology by undergraduates, since they presented difficulties in choosing images and in diversifying the teaching methodology.
