SANTOS, Raffael Bruno Gomes dos; CONCEICAO, Cláudia Cristina da  and  CAVALCANTE, Tícia Cassiany Ferro. The importance of the hospital school program Semear do Recife in the process to continue the schooling of students/patients with cancer. R. Bras. Est. Pedag. [online]. 2019, vol.100, n.256, pp.633-650. ISSN 2176-6681.  https://doi.org/10.24109/2176-6681.rbep.100i256.4068.

The hospital school program figures as an important institutional space in the continuity of the schooling process of hospitalized subjects, ensuring the rights of these students. This research enters the field of hospital pedagogy, and its general objective is to analyze the importance of the hospital school program Semear do Recife, which functions at the Oswaldo Cruz University Hospital, for the process to continue the schooling of students/patients with cancer. Data collection was carried through documentary analysis, observations with field diary at the hospital-based class, and an interview with the teacher using a semi-structured script. The importance of the hospital school program for the continuity of the education of students/patients was clearly verified, as it was able to avoid the disruption of the school cycle caused by hospitalization. The relevance of the pedagogical activities and the significance of this mode of education to students treating cancer was also verified. The pedagogue plays a key role in the hospital school program, since he is the responsible for planning, putting in place, and analyzing what is producing results or not in the daily activities of the class. Hospitalized subjects must be seen as subjects of law, from the right to health to that of education.

Keywords : hospital school program; hospitalized student; learning.
