Abstract

GOMES, Cláudio  and  VIANA, Adriana Backx Noronha. Exploring the availability of information and communication technologies effects on Enem results. R. Bras. Est. Pedag. [online]. 2022, vol.103, n.263, pp.37-60. ISSN 2176-6681.  https://doi.org/10.24109/2176-6681.rbep.103i263.4731.

This research aims to investigate the association between the availability of information and communication technologies (ICTs) and school performance measured by the National High School Exam (Enem) score. Through linear regression, a model was tested that, on the one hand, relates the availability of these resources, both at school and at the students' homes, with the Enem score per school and, on the other hand, controls the effects of the socioeconomic level of the students and the characteristics of school units. The study data were collected on the website of the National Institute of Educational Studies and Research Anísio Teixeira (Inep) and the sample included 9.228 Brazilian public schools whose students participated in the Enem 2015 test. The results showed a positive and significant association between the availability of computers (in schools and student homes) and cellphones (in student homes) and the Enem score by school.

Keywords : access to technology; computer use; educational technology; National High School Exam.
