SAMPAIO, Carlos Eduardo Moreno  and  HIZIM, Luciano Abrão. Youth and Adult Education and its overlapping with regular education. R. Bras. Est. Pedag. [online]. 2022, vol.103, n.264, pp.271-298. ISSN 2176-6681.  https://doi.org/10.24109/2176-6681.rbep.103i264.5135.

The right to education in Brazil has elicited social interest, while it has been a field of interest for academic studies and government institutions that assess public policies. This article aims to present research results on the potential and effective audience of the Youth and Adult Education (EJA), as an educational right guaranteed in the Brazilian Federal Constitution from 1988. As a methodological procedure, a quantitative study was carried out on databases, educational indicators and demographic information produced by state agencies. The study revealed that the irregular school trajectory is related to the migration of students to EJA, characterizing its overlapping with regular education, which points to the need to adopt specific policies to address deficiencies in academic trajectory and in the service offered to EJA's potential audience.

Keywords : illiteracy; right to education; school flow; Youth and Adult Education.
