The aim of this article is to discuss the orientation of The Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) to the educational management, mainly the ones linked to the decentralization and institutional autonomy of the school. Through analysis of three documents published by ECLAC in the last two decades, orientations are explored and recommendations are enhanced to the organization and management changes of the school. It is fundamental that such orientations and recommendations point out virtues of the market to the improvement necessary to the public school as well as the necessity of changes in the educational field in the nearby countries. Considering the context in which the autonomy of the school is, we may conclude that the orientation presented by ECLAC in its documents, besides bringing different references that show their democratic management, they are in the same level as the educational renovation implemented in the last decades in Brazil.
