Abstract

The current article is an attempt to demonstrate how the attendance charts of students and teachers constituted one of the resources of the state agencies for regulation and supervision of primary education. It was necessary to restore the processes of elaboration and permanence of this equipment along the successive state reforms of education, to comprehend its meanings and scope within the process of dissemination, creation, maintenance and expansion of the number of primary schools in the state. The research results produced from the analysis of the attendance maps of the Municipality of Nova Iguaçu show a construction of a methodology for collecting and crossing data, and the uses and results that emerge from the work with this source to comprehend the profile of the schools and the criteria to distribute them over the region.
