This article reviews the catechism manuals throughout history, focusing on the forms and directions acquired from studies in different fields of science and from Monsignor Álvaro Negromonte’s catechisms collection, published between 1920 and 1930. The objective of this work is to establish a discussion about this type of printing as an important source for the Brazilian Education History, indicating that established educational practices around Brazilian education and Catholic pedagogy, which sought to combine elements of Catholic tradition and pedagogical modernity that appear, yet so very early, in educational historiography.
