The article establishes dialogues with other studies in History of Education that have been trying to peer the interweaving of knowledge and educational practices with urban reform initiatives implemented since the turn of the nineteenth to the twentieth. In this sense, based on analysis of one book that was written by Arthur Higgins, Compendio de ginástica e jogos escolares, that was published in the late nineteenth century, this study problematizes the interferences of educational debates in the urban environment. The focus was directed on the “contributions” that gymnastics school would provide for the organization of the forms of the population interact with logic required by the capital during the Pereira Passos administration (1902-1906).
