The text aims to discuss the historical and social polictical conjuncture, in which the struggle for education have been inserted since the installation of the military regime in Brazil until the mid-1990s. Discusses some specifics of workers’ struggles for education in the State of Paraná and some factors that contributed to the proletarianization of teaching. The methodological procedures used were a literature review and document analysis. Concludes that with the ending of the dictatorship, while workers celebrated democratic advances, neoliberalism spread by the society and influenced in education, contributing to the proletarization of the magisterium.
