This text provides a discussion on the content of discipline Research in Education - discipline that is intended to teach the research activity in the field of knowledge in education. With concern in discussing the meaning of discipline and its importance in the formation of the researcher, the central argument of this text is that the methodological choice and construction of research instruments actionsare guided by epistemological perspective. Considering, the assumption that the choice of a specific research method and the definition of procedures for the empirical work actions are supported by a certain form of epistemological understanding, will present the arguments that highlight the importance of epistemological orientation on the investigative process.
