This research aimed to analyze the positives and negatives points of initial formation offered by a degree Course in Physical Education of a public university in Southern Brazil in the perception of academics. The investigation was characterized by the phenomenological approach in the form of a case study with a qualitative approach. The instrument for information collection was a questionnaire with open questions. The interpretation of information was content analysis. Participants were 20 academics of 8th semester of a degree in Physical Education from. It was concluded that it was possible to identify several positive points (15) and negative (13) of initial formation in perceptions of academic studied.
