This study examined the relationship between journalistic periodicals and education quality monitoring policy in Brazil. From bibliographic content research, this text analyzes that beyond the possibilities of use of newspapers as sources of research in education, some aspects of education quality monitoring policy previously establish intimate relations between State, educational Policy and journalistic activity. This happens when journalistic activity sets as its object the dissemination of data generated from large-scale assessments. We choose as basis of this study the concept of everydayness proposed by Agnes Heller (2000) and the literature about the Press as a research resource (MACHADO, 2007; ARAÚJO; GATTI JÚNIOR, 2002). Understanding journalistic periodicals as vehicles that enter the discussion about the quality of education in everyday life, this article shows the new relationships between state educational policy and journalism, as well as gaps in knowledge about this relationship.
