Abstract

MIGUEL LAZARO, Luis; MARTIN DE LA ROSA, Victoria  and  PULIDO MONTES, Cristina. Education for Global Citizenship as a bet to construct a new educational paradigm. Roteiro. UNOESC [online]. 2018, vol.43, n.1, pp.63-85. ISSN 2177-6059.  https://doi.org/10.18593/r.v43i1.13089.

The aim of this study is to reflect on Global Citizenship, through an inves tigation of the theme, considering the evidence of its permanence as a priority in the global educational agenda, both for developed and developing countries. The Educa tion for World Citizenship has, over the last years, been a protagonist in the reflection and educational practices of both Non-Governmental Organizations and teachers who are committed to reflect and a pedagogical practice alternative in their classes. Its pre-eminent inclusion on the global agenda as the root of its priority definition for the Global Education First Initiative (GEFI), which drives the United Nations, will undoubtedly make the need to deepen its development much more visible. Thus, one of GEFI’s three priorities is precisely to foster global citizenship. Unesco considers that Global Citizenship Education proposes a change in the role and educational objectives of building more just, peaceful, tolerant and inclusive societies. This con viction made Education for World Citizenship one of the key goals for education in its Medium-term Strategy Project for the next eight years (2014-2021).

Keywords : Education; Global Citizenship; Educational Paradigm.
