Abstract

NODARI, Paulo César. Violence, reason and culture of peace. Roteiro. UNOESC [online]. 2018, vol.43, n.2, pp.605-634. ISSN 2177-6059.  https://doi.org/10.18593/r.v43i2.16470.

The purpose of this article is to reflect on the violence and culture of peace. In the first section, in the light of Eric Weil's thought, it is a question of showing that the human being, as a free and rational being, has a responsibility to choose between reason and violence, considering, however, that only choice for reason would be in accordance with the course of a human life, in fact, free and happy. In the second section, illuminated and inspired by the papal messages for world peace on the first day of each year, beginning with Pope Paul VI (1968) to the present day Pope Francisco (2018), some propositions are presented with the attempt to offer possible clues and ways of reflection for the progressive development of a culture of peace and non-violence.
