Abstract

SALAZAR, Omar Cabrales  and  PEREZ, Vianney Díaz. The effects of the mercantilization of higher education on the job trajectory of Colombian university proffesors. Roteiro [online]. 2020, vol.45, e23294.  Epub Nov 19, 2020. ISSN 2177-6059.  https://doi.org/10.18593/r.v45i.23294.

The article is the result of the research: Intergenerational labor trajectories and perspectives on university teaching work in Colombia. With a qualitative approach and the biographical method of social research focused on work trajectories, it investigated the consequences that the mercantilization of higher education has left on the work of university professors from four cities in Colombia. Three intergenerational cohorts were analyzed in three focal samples of university professors, who, through semi-structured interviews, were asked about the consequences generated by the commercialization of higher education in their work as an income generator and identity builder. The policies of quality and internationalization are analyzed, as systems that operationalize the new management models in universities, generating an increase in the workload of teachers that lead to increasing the precariousness of teaching work, promoting competitiveness, the deterioration in their quality of life and the dilution of their teaching identity.

Keywords : Mercantilization of higher education; Teaching identity; Precarization; Teaching labor..
