COELHO, Wilma; BRITO, Nicelma  and  DIAS, Sinara. Identity of Black Female and Male Students: the experience of the Afrocientist Project NEAB/GERA/UFPA. Roteiro [online]. 2021, vol.46, e26303.  Epub Sep 08, 2021. ISSN 2177-6059.  https://doi.org/10.18593/r.v46.26303.

This article integrates the discussions regarding black youth and the construction of identity. Its objective is to analyze the identity-building process of black female and male teenager within the Afrocientist of NEAB/GERA. The Afrocientist project promoted training for 100 (one hundred) high school students in the country, as an objective defined by ABPN, to " to bring female and male black youth from low-income backgrounds with high potential for academic and social engagement into the university academic environment". Within the UFPA, the NEAB GERA constituted one of these North Region Nuclei that integrated this Project, with the participation of 11 (eleven) high school students from two public schools located in the metropolitan region of Belém. Through the concepts of symbolic violence, identity, youth and black youth, the article problematizes the formulations of high school teenagers about their ethnic condition and their place in the world and their relationship with the school. It also discusses the potential of related initiatives for the formation of black female and male teenagers, with a view to overcoming structural inequalities. To this end, the testimonies and perceptions of adolescents throughout the project were analyzed through Discussion Groups. It was concluded that the teenagers participating in this project have broadened their conceptual support to strengthen their commitment to their own trajectories and broaden their expectations for the future.
