This study is included in the context of the existing curriculum policies in the 1990s in Brazil. It questions the analyses that are made of them and faces the challenge of thinking the connections between the material and symbolic factors in the theoretical-methodological tendencies in the researches of curricular policy, with the goal to comprehend the implications to the curriculum research field. In its development was used the notion of the curriculum policy as a cultural policy, supported byMacedo (2004)andOliveira (2008), and the studies ofBowe & Ball (1992)andBall (1997), recognizing them as a theoretical-methodological construction capable of guiding the study. The effects of the theoretical-methodological perspectives are significantly manifested in stricto sensu productions, for this reason, we decided to analyze these perspectives in dissertations and theses. These were selected from abstracts in Capes’ database, searching the ones defended between 1995 and 2002, reaching 15 dissertations and 8 theses. It was concluded that the curricular policy has become known as a study object, highlighting the potential of the perspectives developed from a cultural approach.
