This article aims to understand how, in the relationship between being a child and being a student, childhood expresses their experiences at school. Due to the objective outlined, ethnographic research involving fifty-one children from a first-year elementary school class at a public school in the city of Joinville, in the state of Santa Catarina, was used as a methodology in 2018. The approach of the researchers to the reality of the researched school made it possible to know and interpret the “point of view” of the children, showing that they distinguish the school as a place with different actions, however, they want to be children, in a constant exercise submission.
