The Campanha de Educação Popular (Ceplar): training space in the educational scenario of Paraíba (1961-1964). Roteiro [online]. 2023, vol.48, e32240. Epub 01-Ago-2023. This work highlights the emergence of the Campanha de Educação Popular in the city of Campina Grande, Paraíba, between 1961 and 1964, highlighting its contribution to the educational scenario of the time. The research was based on the Diário Oficial and Diário da Borborema, located in the Instituto Histórico e Geográfico of Paraíba and on documents such as the Statue of the Campanha de Educação Popular, the Military Police Inquiries and the Projeto Compartilhando Memórias. After surveying sources and analyses, it was inferred that aforementioned campaign used the “Paulo Freire Method” and consisted of the idea of teaching young people and adults to read and write in 40 hours, whose objective was to awaken a critical sense in these subjects about existing social inequalities. However, with the establishment of the civil-military coup in 1964, the campaign was extinguished, having left an important educational legacy in Paraíba.
