DJU, Antonio Oliveira; MAGOGA, Patrícia Melo  e  MURARO, Darcísio Natal. Analysis of the educational assumptions of homeschooling in Brazil based on Paulo Freire and Matthew Lipman. Roteiro [online]. 2023, vol.48, e32188.  Epub 20-Dez-2023. ISSN 2177-6059.  https://doi.org/10.18593/r.v48.32188.

This paper aimed at analyzing Freire's concepts of integration and Lipman's concepts of reflective thinking as a basis for liberating education, as opposed to the foundations of homeschooling in Brazil. For this, we raise the following question: what kind of education does homeschooling presuppose in the light of Freire's and Lipman's contributions? Firstly, we will try to understand Freire's concept of integration to analyze the presuppositions of homeschooling. We will then look at Lipman's notion of reflective thinking in a community of enquiry to analyze these assumptions and reflect on the contradictions present in homeschooling. This is a qualitative bibliographical study, based on the works of the two authors to understand their concepts of integration and reflective thinking. This conceptual outline makes it possible to critically reflect on the theoretical foundation of homeschooling in Brazil, under the scrutiny of critical thinking with others through an education that provides democracy, equality, and the legitimate recognition of difference. Lipman and Freire's critical thinking proposals conceive of education centered on the experience of thinking that values the contradictory and differences in a dialogical, problematizing, critical and creative context. This approach seeks socio-cultural integration, giving a voice to the oppressed and promoting a democratic practice that understands the political-economic context of oppression. The education proposed by these thinkers is a praxis that articulates the construction of knowledge and the transformation of social and cultural inequalities. This educational perspective opposes conservative, authoritarian and arbitrary models, such as homeschooling, which jeopardize public education, social justice, the integral development of the person and democracy.

Palavras-chave : integration; reflective thinking; homeschooling; democracy; public education.
