Abstract

SARAIVA, Karla. Absent bodies in Distance Learning. Educação. UNISINOS [online]. 2015, vol.19, n.3, pp.417-425. ISSN 2177-6210.  https://doi.org/10.4013/edu.2015.193.12.

This article aims to examine how corporeity has been signifi ed in the fi eld of Distance Learning (DL), based on the analysis of academic papers, supplemented with data from research conducted with students. The theoretical framework is constituted by the representations of body contained both in cyberpunk literature and in some scientifi c fi elds dedicated to advanced research on artifi cial intelligence. In both cases, there is an understanding that human beings are composed of a disposable body and a mind where real life unfolds. Within this framework, the article discusses the idea expressed by some authors that the absence of the body in the relations established in DL would not be a limiting factor, but rather an element of empowerment for communication and interaction. It shows also that although there is a tendency to praise the avoidance of corporeity, face relations are still desirable and valued.
