Abstract

This study had the objective of investigating the teaching strategies used by teachers, as well as the theoretical basis used in the process. As its development, it aimed at knowing the learning strategies and the motivational aspects presented by the students of the first grade elementary school. The method for data analysis was the descriptive with survey and correlational outlines. A number of 348 children between 6 and 13 years old and their teachers from two public schools in the north of Paraná participated in this study. Data had been collected through the Learning Strategies Scale, Elementary School Students' Motivation Scale and a questionnaire on Teachers' Teaching Strategies. Results showed that younger students appeal to use Strategies and maintain behavior similar to others about the motivational continuum. Teachers who encourage the systematic use of strategies contribute to maintain a good motivational quality of students.
