Abstract

BILHAO, Isabel. Press and workers' education: Analysis of the spread of rationalist education in Brazilian anarchist newspapers (1900-1920). Educação. UNISINOS [online]. 2016, vol.20, n.2, pp.176-184. ISSN 2177-6210.  https://doi.org/10.4013/edu.2016.202.04.

This article analyzes the spread of rationalist educational precepts aimed at the education of workers, held in the anarchist press during the first decades of the twentieth century. Based on samples of texts published in newspapers A Luta, from Porto Alegre, A Voz do Trabalhador, from Rio de Janeiro and A Lanterna, from São Paulo, it is intended to observe the arguments in defense of the spread of the pedagogic rationalism, in its relations with the construction of the image and memory of educator Francisco Ferrer, founder of the Modern School. The guiding hypothesis is that, in the early decades of the Republic, the workers' organization was intensified and the education of this group came to be seen as an important field of ideological battles, and the use of media has become one of the main weapons to combat and dissemination of ideas, among them, the rationalist. This discussion aims to contribute to the expansion of knowledge about the early education initiatives for workers outside the state level in Brazil.
