A biography provides a reconstitution of the social context of a given period from the inseparable relationship between individual and collective history. The objective of this study is to understand the life history of Aída Balaio (1897-1970), with emphasis on his educational work, in the interface with the political, cultural and social context of the Mucuripe region, Fortaleza, Ceará. Grounded theoretically in the New Cultural History, the micro-historical research is based on the methodology of Oral Hybrid History complemented with documentary sources – magazine, reports of public instruction, memory book, etc. The results showed that Aída Balaio was a black woman of simple origin, who concluded the teaching thanks to the philanthropic entrance in the College Immaculate Conception. She literacy and assisted countless people from a pauperized community, broke paradigms relative to race and disadvantaged economic situation, gained relative notoriety and collaborated with the development of Mucuripe.
