Abstract

SILVEIRA, Rosa Maria Hessel; MELLO, Darlize Teixeira de  and  BARBOSA, Liége Freitas. Social invisibility and children’s literary reading - a study of Freitas & Moriconi’s “Os Invisíveis”. Educação. UNISINOS [online]. 2019, vol.23, n.2, pp.316-337.  Epub Apr 30, 2020. ISSN 2177-6210.  https://doi.org/10.4013/edu.2019.232.08.

This paper aims to analyse gestures of reading understanding from early-year students in public school towards Tino Freitas’s and Renato Moriconi’s work ‘Os Invisíveis’ from the collection PNBE Anos Iniciais - 2014, which portrays with aesthetical usefulness social actors’ invisibility in the contemporary world. The work comes from the research project “Pathways and representations of childhood in books for children - study of works and readings” (CNPq support). The student speech analysis, in the mediated conversation, and their drawings and texts have shown negotiated meanings in the reading session and has pointed to articulations between the subject of social invisibility and students’ own experiences, and to the significance of challenging narratives in early-year groups. The study has drawn on discussions about the existence of difficult subjects in children’s literature (Colomer & Evans) and significance of sharing literary reading (Chambers, Roche and others).

Keywords : Children’s literature; Conversations about reading; Social invisibility.
