Abstract

BREDER, Debora  and  FIGUEIREDO, Maria Paula Eppinghaus de. Of dreams and insurrections: fragments of a (hopeful) discourse about the occupation of a public school in Petrópolis/RJ. Educação. UNISINOS [online]. 2019, vol.23, n.3, pp.505-525.  Epub May 04, 2020. ISSN 2177-6210.  https://doi.org/10.4013/edu.2019.233.08.

This article presents partial results of a research conducted during 2017 in a public school in Petrópolis / RJ, which had been occupied the previous year. From participant observation and interviews with students who participated in the occupation, we sought to understand the meanings attributed by these young people, retrospectively, to the movement. Then, assuming that every film, whether fiction or documentary, constitutes a social and symbolic mise-en-scène of the world, we have made a counterpoint between the reports that were entrusted to us at school and those presented in the documentary Nunca me sonharam (2017), made with high school students in various regions of Brazil. Our objective was to analyze, in a comparative perspective, this multiplicity of voices that compose, in our view, fragments of a hopeful discourse about the public school, its tensions, limits and utopia.

Keywords : Occupations; High School; Nunca me sonharam.
