Abstract

MENEZES, Edmilson  and  FRANCA, Maria Lenilda Caetano. THE PEDAGOGUE, BY CLEMENTE DE ALEXANDRIA: UNIQUE FEATURES OF CHRISTIAN EDUCATION IN THE ANCIENT WORLD. Práx. Educ. [online]. 2021, vol.17, n.46, pp.252-274.  Epub Dec 24, 2021. ISSN 2178-2679.  https://doi.org/10.22481/praxisedu.v17i46.8850.

The article seeks to analyze the educational perspective that emerges in Christian antiquity, in order to find in the concepts of pedagogue and pedagogy a case capable of exemplifying the influence, but also the displacement, of the reach of the Greek pedagogical model in that matrix. In this sense, Clement of Alexandria and his work The Pedagogue are strategic to understand the innovative guidelines that guided one of the most successful ways of the formation of the Christian man, namely, the pedagogy of conversion. In this sense, Clement of Alexandria is, nevertheless, a relevant chapter in the history of Christian education, as he was one of the first to conceive of Christianity as a complete training program and as a method of moral improvement crowned by a genuine conception of pedagogy and pedagogue.
