Abstract

JOAO, Patrícia; RODRIGUES, Ana V.  and  HENRIQUES, Maria Helena. Geosciences education and sustainable development: conception and validation of questionnaires. Práx. Educ. This paper presents the design, validation and a pilot study of two questionnaires (Initial Questionnaire and Final Questionnaire) as research instruments for collecting data to support an ongoing PhD project at the University of Aveiro (Portugal) on geosciences education in Basic Education (from the 1st to the 9th grade), specifically "Science teaching in primary education: sustainable development and practical activities on soil". Responses will be provided in two moments in the frame of a Training Workshop for sciences teachers of the Portuguese Basic Education System: i) at the beginning of the Workshop, using the Initial Questionnaire, in order to understand the teachers´ perceptions on their own teaching practices in earth sciences related to Sustainable Development, and ii) at the end of the Workshop, based on the Final Questionnaire, aiming at perceiving the teachers´ perspectives about their participation in the Workshop as a contribution for their professional development, specifically in the preparation and development of practical scientific activities, particularly in the area of Geosciences.
