The objective of the article is to analyze the effectiveness of the National Student Assistance Program at UFVJM - Janaúba campus. To this end, a case study of a quantitative nature is used, comparing the performance of scholarship holders and those not covered by scholarship between the years 2014 and 2019. The results indicate that the beneficiaries of the assistance obtained better academic performance, evaded in smaller number and had higher graduation rates in relation to the others. It is concluded that the student assistance policy presents a positive correlation between aid and academic performance, which indicates its possible effectiveness. However, it is important to consider other indicators that measure the program, as well as the impacts of the pandemic and recent budget declines in student aid.
